The Annotated Firebird Giveaway!

This is a very special giveaway for me. Due to a mix-up, I ended up with two copies of The Annotated Firebird by Kathy Tyers (Marcher Lord Press, $26.99) that just released. So, I am giving away one of the copies, completely free!!

Just leave a comment and tell me why you want this book, what makes it special to you?

For me, I first heard about Firebird on my first-ever encounter with new agent STEVE LAUBE when I pitched my near-futuristic story, LIBERTY'S SON, to him in 2004. I hadn't read much speculative fiction beyond Stephen Lawhead, due to some well-intentioned restrictions by my mother, who wanted to be sure we were honoring God in our lives. Steve told me to read Firebird. So, I did...and it absolutely revolutionized my thinking and writing.

When Marcher Lord Press announced they had secured the rights to re-publish this amazing series and would actually print the remaining books, buying The Annotated Firebird was a no-brainer.

In a war she doesn't believe in, she must forge a bold new destiny.

Firebird: Lady Firebird Angelo departs her home world expecting death in space combat. Captured instead, she finds a startling destiny among an ancient telepathic family-and a new kind of battle against implacable enemies.

Fusion Fire: Firebird discovers both evil and uncontrollable power at the depths of her own spirit, and when her sister commits unspeakable treachery, she must draw on that power to save the man she loves from certain death.

Crown of Fire: Firebird returns to her home world, where some consider her a hero-but those in power have labeled her a traitor. Facing death once again, she discovers the cost of pride and the true meaning of sacrifice.

In a single volume with newly created maps and annotations, here are the first three volumes of the beloved Firebird series, freshly edited for Marcher Lord Press by bestselling author Kathy Tyers.

  1. I love sci-fi/fantasy, read the Narnia series in 1st grade, Lord of the Rings in grade school, and am always looking for new great sci-fi/fantasy authors. I have been cheering on Marcher Press as they lead the charge to bring in good spec fiction to CBA, was SO proud of them for having 2 of 3 Christy finalists this year. Would love to read this one. 2. Hi Ronie,
Can't give you a good reason for getting the book other than I've never read it. :-) Met Jeff Gerke at a conference so I know anything he's connected with will be good. And I have some ideas for some speculative fiction stories and need to read good examples. Need to check out your books, too. I can be reached at kenneth@kmbriggs.com.
    Nice website!

  3. I've never read any speculative fiction so this would be a first for me. Sounds interesting, though. I know for sure my 16 yr old would read it.

  4. Hi Ronie,
I'm new to Christian fiction and am trying to study as many different authors as I can. I went to my first Christian fiction writers' conference today and learned so much. I heard Tricia Goyer and Robin Caroll and they were amazing. CONTACT: authorboyles@swbell.net

  5. Hi Ronnie, I went to Mount Hermon one year and bought book two and three. But book one wasn't there to buy. Can't quite remember why, it was probably sold out. So I would LOVE . . . did I say LOVE the whole series and all that extra "stuff" that comes with it. At the OCCWF conference last month I bought another Marcher Lord Press book and had Jeff Gerke sign it (I did an interview with him, he's so sweet, witty and funny). Again, no books by Kathy! Anyway, would love to have Firebird. Nice blog btw. ;)

  6. Oops, sorry. Here's my email: gtargirl@gmail.com

  7. I've never read speculative fiction, and this sounds like a good place to start.

  8. I would love to have the new Firebird book! I have one of the old anthologies (now with yellowed paper) from many years back and am hoping to get a new copy so I can see all the additions/annotations. I love Kathy Tyers. Her Star Wars books are pretty good too. (grin) dona at fantasyandfaith dot com.

An annotated Firebird? Wow! I had no idea. I loved this trilogy. For me, it was the first time I realised there could be Christian scifi.

    Thanks.

  10. I'd love to read Kathy's books. She's a mentor for the Christian Writers Guild (where I work) and I've always found her to be the sweetest thing. And I do love spec fic. opusmle (at) gmail dot com.
